Romeo & Juliet

A series of posters promoting the classic play as it shows at The Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto. Using the process of ink stamping, carving my own images in to an illustration board and then using the result as a stamp, I created this ‘game’ series to illustrate the nature of the play. A theme that is very apparent to me in this play, among Shakespeare’s other plays, is manipulation. In my opinion, the characters always seem to be toying with one another, there is more than one side to every person, and honesty is not the most prominent trait. Games seemed to be the perfect way to illustrate that, so I did so using purple as a colour to reflect the subtlety of the concept. Purple being a colour generally associated with wealth: relevant with the
story being rich in meaning and the characters being in a feud very much based on money or lack thereof.
